HORSEy
So I played my last tournament here in Reno. It was a pretty fun tournament that drew 70 peeps. I was pretty card dead the first few hours and then won some pots and hoovered around avg table stack forever. I eventually lost in the Stud8 round. I had around 9k in chips and picked up 2(JJ). I completed and got a call from the guy who was forced in. he was showing 2(xx) I betevery street and was able to get it in on 7th when I was shown Q2 in the whole for a pair of 2's vs my jacks. 7th paired his 3s and I got a sweet looking trey to ship the 20k pot to him and bust me around 30ish. I was pretty happy with the way I played the entire tournament. One hand that is bugging me though where I should have trusted my gut/soul read came up in the hold'em game. I dont remember the blinds at the time but the table had tightened up a tad and I was probably the tightest at the table so I decided that I would raise any decent hand if it was folded to me in the HJ. Well I got what I asked for and looked down at a monster...T2sspadesss. I know prob not the best hand in the world to try and play limit holdem with but hey we have to get creative right? oh and note...when you make a play and want to trust your read stick to it? anyways, i get a call from the bb...note about the bb, he limped utg with maybe 3-4bbs early with Q8s and quaded up when he hit 3 queens and was a pretty mediocre(at best) player. so we see a flop of Q82 (1 spade)..he checks to me and i bet and he check-raises me..at this point for some odd reason i figured he had J9, JT, T9 or some sort...i guess he can checkraise me with QJ,KJ etc etc type hands but like i said for some reason i was sure he didnt connect with the flop so i called. the turn brings a 4 of spades, giving me shitty bottom with a flush draw. now if i would have trust my read this card really changes nothing for him and when he bet i should have raised...instead i called. the river brought A..so we have Q824A...again a meaningless river card to me. he bet and i thought for maybe 2 seconds and folded. to add insult to injury he thru his cards and they landed right by my chip stack T9o. ;) thnx gai. now this could be just some luck on my part orrrr my hand reading skills are getting a tad better. I like to think they are getting better, I'm feeling more comfortable assigning ranges and usually have them down pretty solid. So after numerous trials the next step is the cruical "trust your read" even if its as hairy as calling the maniac in seat 1 with bottom pair, you only gotta be right a small percentage of the time to make $$$$ right?

Playing Keno in Reno
So I took a trip back to Reno for the Summer Pot of Gold tournament series. I arrived on the 21st and played 1b of event 1 which was a $240 $50k GTD tourney. Nothing much happened here, I got it in short to a LAG but raise and lost a flip.
The next day was the $340 $100k GTD .I started off winning a few small pots and had my stack around 12-14k of our o.g. 10k stack. Seat 5 was pretty active and I heard him talking about how he shipped a venetian deep stack last month or some shit. Anyways UTG limps and seat5 raises for 2nd or 3rd time in a spot like this. I had AJo on the but and decided to flat. Looking back on it I think maybe a 3bett/fold is prob smart. But i figured with position maybe 1 or 2 other weaker hands might come in and see a flop, which I'm fine with in position. everyone folds around to the weak ass utg limper who folds and we see a flop with around 7.5BBs. 999, sweeeet, seat 5 fires out a c-bet for around 4BBs. I decided to float and see a turn. 6c on the turn. He fires about 7BBs. I guess at this point I should have figured I was beat but I decided to give it a shot and I 3bet him to around 20BBs. He thought for a min and shoved. Obviously in hindsight I guess he isnt folding much to a 3bet on the turn, stupid play for me. I'll blame it on driving 4 hours that day ;) anyways i managed to get my stack to around 10k again at 100/200/25 The same dude that has been limp folding utg limped utg or utg+1 and it was folded to me. I decided to 3.5x it with KToand got bb to call and utg to call (12BB). flop comes T73 rainbow. BB insta shoves for a gazillion. seriously it was over 70BB shove. utg mucks and its on me. blahhh. The only hand that is going thru my mind obv is AT. He was pretty tight player so I dont see T7 being in his range quiet often. also any kind of sets are out because i dont feel he open shoves that much with 2 players in with a set. also just the hand before he made a donk call with KQ to the tighest lady at the table. she had QQ and he flopped a King and she turned a Q and he was steemed, acting like it was a bad beat or something????? anyways i took that in account and was hoping he had something around T9,JT,QT or 98. I took a good min to process the info and decided if he had me beat then good "tilt" shove buddy. He showed up with 98s and hit a 6 on the turn, gg me for 100+BB pot.
I then played the small $175 bounty even and lasted about 20 mins. Overplaying big pairs early in multi-way pots=death. anyways. QQ in middle pos. i raise and get the whole world calling me. 5 maybe. flop comes 652 rainbow. I make a c-bet and get called by the button only. Turn is a 3. I guess my thinking was shutoff but i just didnt put a 4 in his range(incorrectly). when you have 2 other limpers in front you can pretty much call on the button a very wide range that crushes this board. I checked and he fired out a healthy bet. (seems to be the reoccurring theme, fold to the big turn bets on scary boards? ) anyways at this point in the hand i guess we have to put him on air or a big hand. I guess I wasnt thinking and taking all variables into account. The way he was betting I really put him some kind of over pair. If i call the turn bet I put over half my stack in so I was 100% committed to calling his riv bet(which in hindsight maybe I should shove in these spots if im doing that?) the river comes 2 so we have 65232 board. i check he shoves i call he shows 45o gg me. I guess the button call and the strong turn and riv bet might be signs i was crushed, but how often does he play the same way with a smaller over pair when i check the turn? This hand really bugged me and it might have been played correctly but nonetheless be attentive to multiway pots obv and the wide range each limper behind the intial limper gets.
This is super long post so I'll shorten it up. I played the $12.5k GTD Omaha hi/lo yest and didnt have any luck. Today at 4pm is the $12.5k GTD HORSE event. Prob will be my last event unless I bink it. I'm pretty disappointed with the cash games here too, they have either 4/8 or 10/20 limit. 4/8 o8 and they advertise 6/12 HORSE but it hasnt ran once since I've been here. it would have been really nice to play some HORSE this whole week. So thats where my journey is at so far. I havent had any luck in tournaments yet but have only played a handful. The 1 session of 6/12 i played , i did pretty well so when i get back to mountain view tomorrow i'll be playing cash game like crazy getting ready for the few tournament series' that are taking place in the next few months around the bay area.

Garden City
Ive been here for almost a week and I'm diggin it. Havent been too many places except around Mountain View but it's pretty sweet here. I ended up playing my first tournament yesterday at Garden City Casino. It started at 1040pm with a $180 buy in. 79 peeps entered with a $4.6k prizepool. I was pretty shocked at the turnout for such a late tournament but hopefully its a good sign as to how big the dailys are. Garden runs dailys at 10am. Mon- Thurs is a $80 ($60 rebuy) for 6k and 6k chips, 20 min levels. The structure is pretty solid with some added blind levels that Rivers def doesnt have at theirs. Fri-Sun they run a $150 ($100 rebuy) for 10k and 10k chips same blind levels. The tourney dir said that usually draws $6-8k 1st place every week and it has some decent play. The 1st and 3rd of the month they run a $330 unlimited entry 1st 4 levels "deep stack" 10k chips 30 min levels. I imagine this gets over $10k+ for 1st. They are also holding a Summer Slam Series with I think 10 or so events ranging from $100-$1k with a mix of games, should be pretty exciting. I havent checked out Bay 101 or Lucky Chances yet. I'll prob go to Lucky Chances sunday for their weekly tournament. It's a $225 unlimited re-entry with a $10k gtd 1st place. And I also saw on their site at the end of the month they are running a $330 version with a $20k gtd 1st place? wtf? The action out here is so redic.

I havent yet played cash but the tables are pretty full at Garden. I waited 1.5 hours on the 6/12 list and ended up leaving. Note to self, call in and wait 30-40 mins before you go(its only 10-15 mins down the road). I'm debating on what tournament to play tomorrow. Bay is running a $200 30 min level 10k starting and Garden is running the $250 20 min level 20k starting. I think they come out to be the same but I havent compared the levels/blinds yet. I might call Bay and see what they usually get as far as turnout, I would much rather play for 6-7k 20 min levels than 3k 30 min levels. Aight, thats all I got.

daburgh
Today will be my last day in Pittsburgh for sometime. I started this blog with the exact intention of what the title says,and for now, I've accomplished it. It's been a long hard road to get here but it was well worth it. I get to live any poker players dream and get out there and try to make it. I might not be the best(yet) but I believe I'm well on my way. I want to thank everyone that has given me advice and helped me in all aspects of the game. My journey leads me to Mountain View Cali (San Jose area) for the next few months. March Madness
So after starting the year off on a cooler I finally binked something. Shipped the $5.50 2R1A $30k gtd on Stars, weeeee. KULP,franchizzle, and I had a solid week in the grind room but ran pretty bad in the late stages. KULP FT the $11 10k Early Antes but ran bad and busto'd I think 7th. I had a few nice stacks that I punted deep and FT a micro multi entry. Played pretty solid in the 30k. I was around middle of the pack when FT came. Finally had some huge coin flips hold. 99
Played a sesh today and started pretty early. Had some decent runs but didnt run so hot and I spewed 20bb in the $11r on stars with around 100 left. Other than that keep on the grind since miniftops started sunday. Hopefully ship the silver jersey.
