overcoming a downswing

Its been over a week or so since I last updated this. I need to update regulary instead of every few weeks. Basically since august 17th I've been running like shit, then run good, then run like shit. I'm up for the month but I've been on 2-3 35+ buy-in downswings. Roughly $300+ losing sessions then come back to even, then back down. I'm playing good just not winning my races or winning with my big hands. Example: 11 left in a $12-45 man. I'm on the button with about 11k and have AA. Blinds are 4/800 w/ante. small stack pushes, hi-jack pushes. i call. I cant even remember what they had, I think 88 and A8 or something, flop comes bricks, then runner runner straight and they split. I was already 1/11 and this would of put me over 23k going into the final table. Other examples are QQ vs AQ, AQ vs AQ, AK vs AJ, just standard shit I'm not winning. I think I would of had a decent month had this not happened. but its poker, what can you do right?

The most important thing I learned about this is I have grown as a poker player. In the past after losing $300+ to some bad beats I would of sat at a cash table or played above my head and lost it all. I moved down when the time was correct and played solid poker and grinded it out thru this breakeven stretch. I've come along way in the last 6-7 months even.

I've run like absolute shit in the $12 180-mans. I wont be playing those until I have around a $2k roll just because of the swings. I've only played about 20 and mini cashed 1 and bubbled 1 or 2 times. I dont want to be bouncing around from $6.50s to $12s because of bad downswings, so for now I'll grind out August and hopefully be ready to play $12-45s and $16-18s in Sept.

The contest doesnt look good, only have about 3 people in so far and only a few days left, so we'll see. I'll post my results here soon on the month/games. Currently I'm around 515 games with 9% ROI...for about a $260 profit on the month...SHITTY.

also i stated incorrectly about the bonus, you need 5k fpps for $50 bonus. I have just over 3k right now, so hopefully I can get 2k more in the first few weeks and get another bonus. Also I'm about 1k VPPs from Gold Star, so pending any huge huge huge downswings(bigger than this one) I should hit it no problem playing next month. When I first started 150-200 games/month was a lot for me, now I'm hitting 500+ each month, I think i can get over 700 in september.

WCOOP will be put on hold unless something crazy happens. I'm planning on playing the miniFTOPS though. There are about 7-8 events I have lined up. I'm going to try and qualify for them because they are low buy ins so maybe get a few hundred in T$ and buy in. Really really really really hoping to play the 2-day event that has a $266 buy in. Just want to get experience in touranaments like this. Most of the ones I have picked out start with 5k chips so it'll be good tournaments to get my post-flop game in full gear. Going to watch some pokerxfactor videos from now until the events and pick up some pointers. I don't want to get a nice stack and then donk off like I usually do.

Thats about it for now, hoping to close out the rest of the month with atleast $300+ profit. I'm hitting about 36% in the 6.50 45s which is pretty good.

Long awaited update

So the past 9 days have been a up and down. I purchased a monthly subscription to sharkscope to keep better track of my games so I dont have to worry about writing them down and putting them into a spreadsheet. I'll post my results below from August 8th until now.

$6.50 9-man Turbo

So I've vowed to try and never play these again. I was on a terrible downswing and reviewed a lot of HHs. I had made the right plays most of the time and I think these results could have been better. I'm still at around 8% ROI in 312 games, which is terrible at these limits. I would never make it in anything above this limit if this was consistent with my game play. I'd probably just quit and never do it again. Anyways....$6.50 9 mans will NEVER be played by me. I rather die.

$6.50 18-man Turbo

This is also ugly. I've played 206 of these total throughout my poker carrer and have 12% ROI and a $154 profit. Now thats also terrible, but given a lot of the games included were games when I was just playing poker and had no idea what I was really doing. 66 games is not a lot either and the 12-13 buy in downswing is really nothing. But as with the 9 mans, I probably wont be playing these anytime soon. I rather grind $3.40/45 mans and be content.

$6.50 45-man Turbo

Now these are fun! The ROI is probably not sustainable...I'm thinking anywhere from 20-25% in the long run would work. I never really played these but with the recent failures and getting pissed off I've switched to these. I'll keep grinding a bit more of these and mix in the $12/45s, until I can play those and the $16 9 or 18 manners together. Shooting for $1100+ Bankroll though.

$12 45-man Turbo

Nothing crazy here...I played a few of these the other day and was happy with the success I had. Got sucked out in a few big pots but nonetheless I really liked these too.

$16 9-man Turbo

Heres an ugly one. $16 9-man. I've played 260 total since I started this thing and have 11% ROI with $444 in profits. I think the ROI could be higher by a few points but the last 25 games have sucked! I think I bubbled 5 in a row which caused this massive downswing. Low amount of games and I still like to play them. So once I get my bankroll established I'll be putting these in the daily routine for a while. Unless I'm making more money playing the 18 and 45 games then these will get scratched.

$16 18-man Turbo

4 games on these and I played these with the $12. I've played 46 of these since I started the blog with an ROI of 54% and up $398. The best at these limits hit about 15-17%, so I would be happy with 10-13% or so. These will be a daily dose with the 45s and I think running all of them together will help me get my roll up faster.

Overall August 8th-August 17th

Here are the totals for the last 9 days. Minus my terrible downswing in a few, which is about $200, I would be around $330ish. If I would of profited in some more it would be a bit higher. So I'm a little frustrated that I still am on a slight downswing but I think it'll play out.

I played about 7-8 MTTs on friday and mini cashed in 2 I think. That part of my game I really need to look at because I'm decent at getting chips between the 1st and 2nd hour but then I seem to spew everything to somebody else. HUGE LEAK!

Heres a hand that crippled me in the $5.50 2R1A tournament. Now that I look at it, it was an easy desicion on my part. 1 guy raise and 1 guy called, I'm sitting on AK on the button...I pulled a squeeze, and was called by 77 and couldnt win a flip. I would of been top 10 atleast in chips, not sure how many people were left at this point.

i also dont know how to embed so just goto the link and watch the hand unfold.

I'm going to ditch the WCOOP sats and events because I dont have the BR to even think about satty into something. I'm going to focus on the 45s right now and mix in $16 9 and 18 man.

I posted a contest on p5s for september- $12 Turbo 45-mans. Trying to have a buy in around $30-$50 maybe higher depending on how many people are interested. I'll proably just do best ROI in 400-500 games. That should be fun and get me some volume in and hopefully some profits. I really need to get this thing going because it feels like I'm stuck. I sharkscoped my whole 2009 year and in SNGs I'm up about $1500 in 1100 games. Kinda sucks because I would be around 2600 or so right now...but if i had that money 2 months ago I might be on my way to $10k soon. But whatever.

Oh and I almost forgot, I cleared my $50 bonus and I'm about 600 FPPs away from 2,500 fpps to get another one. I'm also very far off from making Gold Star but with the addition of playing $12/$16 games I might be able to hit it, if not it'll def be next month.

Current bankroll: $818.70
Bonus: $50 (I will just include this in the bottom and it'll already be added to the top bankroll)

Frustration

Short blog post because I have nothing really to say right now. I keep getting it in good and getting sucked out on. I'm losing/breakeven in the last 120+ games and its annoying as fuck. I keep reviewing my HHs to make sure I'm making the correct and most profitable play but yet I'm still losing money. I've done with the $6.50 9-mans and will probably never play them again in my life. I'm going to start with the 18-man turbos and throw in some 45-mans also. I've recently been playing about 10-11 $6.50s and 4 $16 9-mans. I'll continue this with the 18s and 45s and mix in the $16s. It keeps my average buy in down and I still have around 70 Buy-ins for it. I'll post results below of my finished series of the $6.50. Obviously I missed my mark and cant fucking run higher than 10% in these idiotfest's.

So if I averaged all in all, about 16 tables at once, which is 24 tables/hr. So thats about 13 hours of play, for a whopping $12.56/hr. LOOK OUT. On to the $16s

Nothing really to see here...16 played for a profit of .50 weeeee.

I'm going to try to grind out 200-300 of the $6.50 18 mans and hopefully win a Battle of the Planets if I run like Jesus. Which currently I seem to be running fucking peachy and making a ton of profit. I'm frustrated and need to get the fuck out of these levels as soon as I can. If I can get to 1100-1200 quickly, my main focus will be $16s and possibly some $27s.

Also I have almost half the points needed to get my $50 bonus, then I need to make another 5k more FPPs to get another one, hopefully get my ass to Gold Star VIP status at the end of this month.

Current bankroll: $686.44

Hitting a brick wall

Last time I updated I played 131 SNGs with 16.1% ROI. Not shabby. The last 100 or so SNGs I've been getting raped. Can't seem to win any races which is a problem! Always I'm finishing around 6-8 a lot which I'm not sure if thats normal or not. I don't think it is.

So I've dropped dramatically, I got SNGWIZ which takes a look at your game and shows you if you push/fold in correct spots. I've reviewed about 40-50 of my games and there are a few mistakes I can fix. I'm going to bump it down to 12-14 tables instead of trying to run 18-20. I have been getting sucked out on a lot but I won't blame it totally on that. 21 games left for the 9 man 6.50s. I don't know if I'm going to try and run some more of these or move on to the 18-man turbos and see if I have some better luck. I havent played in two days, so hopefully I can get some volume put out. I played more in the past 1.5 weeks, game-wise, than I used to play monthly. I wish I could of multi-tabled like this at the begginning.

Also, I'm going to be purchasing a $50 bonus for 5k FPPs. Since I'm silver star I have that option to get a small bonus. Anytime I get 5k FPPs I can get one. The next step is Gold Star $285 for 25k FPPs. Which is pretty far off currently. If I can get to $16s pretty quick this month I might be able to manage the Gold Star status and earn more bonuses.
